The Power of a Present Dad
Born in the East Rand to a teenage mother, Blaque Nubon was blessed with a present father who shaped his worldview. His dad was emotionally, spiritually and financially available, showing affection toward his mother and teaching by example. “My emotional intelligence was developed through watching my father love my mother,” he recalls. Those first 15 years became his training ground for manhood. When his father later left, Blaque learned the hard lessons of absence and forgiveness. He describes forgiveness as releasing a poison you’ve been drinking and says that choosing to honour the good years changed how he shows up as a husband and father.
Fatherhood as a Journey of Change
When his daughter was born, Blaque vowed not to parent from resentment or to correct his father’s mistakes, but to let fatherhood change him. “I told my wife to hold me accountable. I don’t want to define fatherhood by my father’s flaws,” he says. His daughter has become his mirror, calling him out when he falls short and reminding him of the values he teaches. Through her, he’s learned humility and the courage to grow in real time.
Marriage, Conflict and Compatibility
Blaque redefines marriage as a process of transformation. “Marriage is designed to change us,” he explains. Conflict is part of the process, not a sign of failure. He encourages couples to develop a “fighting style” to clean their marriage just as they clean their homes. True compatibility, he says, is not about convenience but about enduring and evolving toward a shared vision.

To Blaque, leadership begins with love and vulnerability. Men, he says, are not emotionless they need safe spaces to open up. Vulnerability in marriage is like giving your partner access to your inner house, your failures and your hopes.
